Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Where do I ask the Shuttle driver to take me? Will he/she know
    where Gilmore Hall is?
The shuttle driver *ought* to recognize Gilmore Hall. If they do not,
then ask for Segundo Dining Commons, if still no spark, then ask for
the  ARC, then the NorthWest corner of campus. If they need

directions from Airport:
From I-5, exit Highway 113 south
Exit Russel Blvd. eastbound
Turn right on La Rue Blvd
Turn left into Visitor Parking Lot 25

This pdf has maps, directions and a phone to contact conference housing.

  • I'm staying in the dorms.  If I'm arriving late in the evening, how can I check into my room?
If you send an email to the organizers letting us know you'll be late, we will let the housing staff know.  Upon arrivial, housing On-Call staff will check-in guests who arrive after 10:30pm. The On-Call staff can be reached at (530)-752-2900.
  • Is there internet access in the dorms?
Yes, there will be wireless internet access in the dorms.  Details on how to access it will be provided upon arrival.
  • Will a conference phone be available in the parallel session meeting rooms? A video system?
There are no phones in the rooms. There is wireless available in most
classrooms, however, so conference calling can be achieved through Skype or EVO.  One caveat, Skype and EVO have feed-back issues with open mikes --- so these may not work so well in a conference room setting.
  • Are students required to pay the collaboration meeting registration fee?
We are asking that students pay the registration fee.  As the majority
of the registration fee goes to paying for food (coffee breaks, banquet,
etc.), our reasoning was that it was fair to ask students to pay as they
eat as much as the rest of our collaborators ;-)
  • I'm driving to the meeting.  What is the parking situation on campus?
For those driving from LBNL or UCLA, there is intercampus reciprocity for parking and if you have a staff or faculty (not student) permit from another UC campus, you can request a temporary UCD permit at the information booth at the entrance to campus.  If staying in the dorms, the best parking lot on campus is parking lot 25.  Directions here.

Parking in the lots on campus costs $6 a day.  Permits can be obtained at the entrance to the parking lot.  There are parking pay-as-you-go stations in all the visitor parking lots (marked VP) on the campus map. You can use cash or credit card (visa or mc) to pay right there.  The parking services web site says that visitors can also buy a permit for up to 10 consecutive days at the parking office (TAPS, or Transportation and Parking Services), which might bethe most convenient thing to do. Their website is:

http://www.taps.ucdavis.edu/

If you look in the Parking link and the permit types, the "visitor"
permit information says:

Available for purchase from permit dispensers located at entrances to
visitor (VP) parking lots. Valid in visitor (VP) parking lots on the
date of purchase. After 5pm, Visitor Permits are also valid in any
non-restricted parking space and at parking meters. Multiple use (up to
10 days) permits may be purchased at the TAPS office.

  • I'm a vegan.  Will there be options for me during the meeting?
As far as the Segundo dining room is concerned, the meals do include vegan options.  We have a full salad bar with beans and tofu, a house vegan burger a vegan sandwich filling at lunch and vegan entree at dinner.  This is the minimum, generally there are even more options. Soy milk is available as well.
