Math tools I: dot product

The primary use of the dot product

is to 1) get the projection of one

vector along another

(how much of one vector “points

along” another)

or 2) the angle between vectors

To do this, you usually

know something about

the components of the vectors

The dot product is smallest

when the angle between the

vectors is 90 degrees

(projection is zero) and biggest

when the angle is zero
