The work done by a non-conservative force depends on the path
The work done by a non-conservative force around
a closed path will not generally be zero
Processes tend to be irreversible:
for example, the energy is often lost forever to heat
Non-conservative forces cannot be
written in terms of a potential energy
An example is friction. The work done by friction is often
dumped into the thermal system (heating things up) and cannot
be recovered again for mechanical work
