Observe a process and make a model: speculate on how the process works, develop a model to describe the process with the fewest possible assumptions, make predictions based on the model
Test the model: design a controlled experiment, look for patterns and consistencies, write everything down and test those patterns against the patterns predicted by your model
Adjust your model: hone your model based on observations, understand what worked and what didn’t, adjust the model and your understanding
The big goal of physics is to fundamentally understand
the patterns seen in nature and to express those patterns in the most
compact way possible using the least number of assumptions
This is done using the scientific method
Doing this helps us build a “road map of reality”
