Even better than the first one I thought, for it is a bit darker... An excellent summer action movie. Too many dumb ones are out there, this one has the special effects plus it actually has a story.

I hardly even remember I saw this one. It was in Michigan during a collaboration meeting, and several of the postdocs went (what else are ya gonna do?). One of those summer action movies that are a dime-a-dozen. |

Audrey Tatou is excellent in her shy, turkish girl role. Memorable quote, but you have to see the movie to appreciate it: "We are the people that drive your cars, clean your rooms, and s.ck y..r d.cks".

Highly recommend this movie. It is not light at all, as it deals very realistically with the gang problems in the shantytowns of Rio in Brazil. But with its subject matter, I would place it on par with other portraits such as "Scarface", where you see the main characters grow from children to become the unquestioned feudal lords of their particular underworld, most of it seen through the first person perspective of Buscapé, who wants to chronicle things through his photographs. |

Right up my alley. It was really hilarious! No wonder some of Don Hertzfeldt's animations are cult classics. At some point they will put all his stuff on DVD, although I already got my copy of "Rejected".
My spoon is too big!

A move away from film-festival movies and into popular territory (appropriately so on a Thursday night at BNL). It's October so halloween is in the air, perfect time for the undead to come out. Definitely my style. Sure, you have to ignore such things as the "ultraviolet light bullets", but a movie with vampires and werewolves hunting each other is a definite must see for me. I liked "Blade" and I liked "The Matrix" and I don't know a guy who doesn't like Kate Beckinsale. So just to see her as one of the vampire Death Dealers, dressed up in the style of Trinity, so you can kick butt in style. Don't even try to read too much into its details, just enjoy the eye candy and the mood of the movie, and you'll have a good time. I can't wait for the awakening ... |

I actually liked it, but I wasn't expecting much. Interesting to see how they followed through with the imagery related to a Messiah in a digital world.

People had warned me about too much violence, but being a huge fan of martial arts, ninja and samurai movies since I was a kid, I don't think it was too much ;-)
Reminded me of so many things, Bruce Lee's Game of Death is of course where he got Uma Thurman's yellow outfit. The Green Hornet, another Bruce Lee reference. Of course, David Carradine, the star of the old "Kung Fu" TV series, cast as Bill. (Some may know that this old TV series was supposed to be starring Bruce Lee, but at the time the network didn't think a chinese star would be so popular, so they cast a westerner!) I like knives and specially katanas, so I appreciated "Hattori Hanzo's steel", a fitting sword for an epic samurai movie series: "I tell you, with no ego, that this is my finest blade. If in your journey you should meet God; God will be cut".

Went to see it not knowing much about it. Not a light one. Reminded me of the mood in "La Cite des Enfants Perdus" and "Delicatessen", where reality is a bit fantastical, and you don't really know what's going on, nor where is it all going. But the charm of this one is in the details. Mme. Souza is great, her eye, her short foot, her whistle; the fat dog barking at the trains, the very creative way to eat frogs legs, the obliging Maitre d', the bellies of the americans, the noses of the french, the mafia thugs, etc.

Based on a true story of the two british climbers who climbed the unassailable west face of Siula Grande in Peru, and almost died in the attempt. If you're a bit depressed, maybe not the best idea to see it. But it certainly goes to show how much sheer determination can do. I really thought it did a lot more to capture the feel of what it is to climb, unlike action movies like 'Vertical Limit', which are just that, action movies. This one is almost like a documentary, yet it manages to grip you simply because it needs no special effects for you to feel anguish, despair, and the impossibility of what Joe managed to do. |

Had been meaning to see it for a while. Deceptively simple script; simple in that it doesn't weave too many stories, but the psychological undertone of the two stories it weaves makes it a very respectable movie. Even more so because it is a comedy! Bill Murray is great, he plays the role perfectly. I laughed many times recognizing myself in some of the situations, and at the same time, it manages to touch you. |

Kept up the good work of the previous 2, even with a couple of director changes in the middle of production. As usual, action, special fx, and the usual X-Men antics are proudly on dislpay. Entertaining.
